Ford doesn't want anyone to forget the legend of the Ford GT. Since the new one debuted, the company has been consistently talking about its racing history and the origin of the GT. As part of that, the company has released a number of heritage editions. Today's Holman Moody Heritage Edition is another in the line.
This special-edition 2022 Ford GT wears the same color scheme as the 1966 Holman Moody GT40 race car, which completed Ford's 1-2-3 sweep of that year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. But Moody's importance to the program runs deeper than that. The team, along with Shelby American, was tasked with reworking the GT40 after the disappointing 1965 race. The prototype ran 265 laps in eight days and became a testbed for every improvement, with the company at one point even trialing an automatic transmission for the car.
Ford hasn't said exactly how many Holman Moody Heritage Edition cars the company plans to build, but the release says it will be "ultra-limited production." The car will be on display at the 2022 New York International Auto Show alongside the original Holman Moody race car. Deliveries begin this spring to "approved" Ford GT customers.
